Drug Culture

Introduction

There is an interesting culture dominating most of the world right now. It is the culture that stagnates the world, and the reason for materialism to continue manifesting in the first place. This culture is a seductive and a tempting one, and seems to be the much better than chasing a non existent impossible to reach truth. Yet, the very moment you step into it, you die, you become attached, and it damages you in the worst ways possible. This culture, is known as the drug culture, a culture which hides all of the real conflicts, and makes us all seem like happy people. The drug culture is our ultimate obstacle between us and freedom, yet at times, is the only way for us to go on, numbing and pleasing, hides the dark truth, this is the drug culture.

Drugs?

First of all, why do I call this culture the drug culture? First, what is the essence of a drug? Not medicine, but drugs, such as opium, meth, marijuana, ecstasy, and other form of narcotics. Is it because they affect our brain in such ways? Or is it because they cause many sensations, often a pleasing one? No, it is because they are addictive, we keep coming back to it no matter the consequences. It is because they are an instant pleasure, and often requires the least effort. This is why I call this the drug culture, because it involves around things that we are addicted to, and we depend on and if we lose those things, we will often get withdrawal syndrome. Well then, shall we start exploring this interesting culture?

Mechanism

Culture here refers to the common habits of people, that eventually grew stronger until it manifests into a tradition. While some traditions are good, this kind of tradition is very damaging and harmful. It is the habit of using drugs to produce illusory happiness, and move on with life, without really attempting to solving the problem. Though, what is a drug here? Is it addictive substances? No, drugs in this essay and for this purpose shall be defined as any object or perhaps activity that humans use or do to numb away their displeasures and perhaps replace it with pleasure. Of course, if that is all the person does, then it’s not a drug, it only becomes a drug when people becomes attached to it, that is they become dependent on it, and if the drug is taken away, they will exhibit a withdrawal syndrome.

Drugs can manifest in many forms, even things that aren’t thought to be drugs. If we examine the West, we can see that people are generally more cheerful, this is not because they have less problems than us, but they are able to suppress the problems better. And of course, I have evidence for this, it is wide known how the West has a rampant culture of alcohol, drugs, and free sex. You know, the stereotypical liberal culture, or if it isn’t liberalism, then fanatism in other ideologies. The three most powerful drugs of the West all contributes to the suppression of their problems in the West, and maintaining a fake aura of happiness. Wait, fanatism? How does fanatism has anything to do with drugs?

You see, there are many ideologies that provide people comfort, sometimes different people have different drug ideas. Eventually they become very devoted and thus fanatical to their ideas as it is the only thing that would help them cope with their sufferings and problems. The reason many people are fanatical is not because of a genuine desire of the truth, if they actually do then they won’t be fanatical in the first place. It is because they desire acceptance and a feeling of importance. By supporting some ideology that few supports, we feel like we are better than others and know more, and fills us with a fake sense of pride and confidence. Well, while the world seems full of dangerous addictions, surely our friends can help, right?

Social interaction and social relationships are absolutely important for human beings, after all that is simply the nature and basic truth of humanity. However, if we can’t control ourselves and solve our conflicts, friends can be a drug as well, how is that? You see, when people have problems, they may have their friends to help them solve the problem. This kind of friendship is perfectly healthy and beneficial for everyone. However, when one have friends to suppress the problems so that it doesn’t bother them, and simply ignores the problems, and needs to keep laughing and having fun with their friends so they forget that the problem exists, then friendship becomes a drug.

Of course, it is still a question on the matter of how things can turn into drugs. You see, human beings will naturally encounter problems and conflicts in their lives, it is inevitable, however one can choose how to address the issue. Some people would solve it right there and there, thus not needing any drugs. However, there are people who feel disturbed by these problems, and for whatever circumstances, if they attempt to solve it right there and there, it would cause other problems such as disturbing their work or somehting. Regardless, a problem can not disappear by ignoring it, and if unsolved will actually grew bigger. And soon it would simply get worse for the affected.

If a problem is unsolved for too long, it can become complicated enough that it may actually take the person down into despair. At this point, the most important thing to do is for the person to get out of despair and get their life together. And of course, pleasant activities that may eliminate their despair is useful, and many people would solve the problem once they realized that it was a mistake to let the problem go. But many others would pick up a pleasant something, and be addicted to it, to numb their pains away. This becomes dangerous, as we become more addicted to it, until it becomes a large mess. However, not all drugs would produce incredibly negative consequences if large doses are taken. Free sex for one, has less obvious negative consequences, and thus is more appealing in the West. Some drugs have also less obvious consequences as they don’t require increasingly adding dosages to keep numbing the pain, something like alcohol. But, in our world today, is it all harmful?

Fine Thread

The drug culture, is sometimes necessary as an ultimate last resort. Especially when the problem is actually external, and we have no power to solve that problem. For example, the oppressive capitalist system we are all in today. In such cases, we are most of the time powerless to solve the global contradiction, and all we can do is try to fulfill our goals within the given constraints. Regardless, the contradictory system itself will cause us suffering, not because we are at fault, but because the system itself is against our human nature. At that point, the only thing we can do is try to do things that can keep our spirits high, have friends, play games, and while we become victim of drug culture, sometimes it is necessary. And even if the problem is internal, engaging in drug culture so we don’t get despaired while solving our problem is also a good thing, as eventually when the problem is solved, we would naturally be put off by the drug culture. But of course, we’re here to examine the negative consequences aren’t we?

Stagnating Consequences

Drug culture becomes especially harmful when it blinds people from the actual problem and makes them dependent on the drug, without ever solving the problem. And this is not theoretical, this is a real problem and its realistic consequences has happened. Why don’t we examine the organization that should be promoting the truth, the Church? The Church has not made any significant breakthroughs with their ideologies and seems to be satisfied with its current self. In other words, it is stagnating, no progress is made, why is that? This is because if the Church questions the illusions it propagates, it would escalate into a larger conflict, furthermore believing that whatever we believe now is the truth is much more comforting than always having our doubts in our toolbox.

Another evidence is from my school. While again, it is only my observations, but I have observed that many students still don’t have a clear purpose in their life. That is certainly a problem, but it seems they never really paid attention to that obviously critical problem. Instead, I see many of them simply engage in drug culture, either in gaming, sports, or the most severe of all, social life. Many students in fact feels uncomfortable and complains about tasks, or even praying in the chapel or the church. These things are disliked because it forces students to face directly with their problems, and thus they dislike it. And drug culture isn’t the final form of itself, if left unchecked, it will grow stronger, into something we all know and love, or hate today, materialism.

Materialism

If one engages in drug culture for too long, they may lose sight of what’s actually important, that is solving their problems or in this context, the truth. Eventually, they become attached to their drugs and they start to see their drugs as their true goal. Obviously, drugs are often materialistic in nature, because once you’re dead, and you never engaged in drug culture, you are truly free and happy, all your problems are solved, and there is no need for you to engage in illusory peace and comfort. Conflicts manifest in the material world, and should be solved there as well. However, while they manifest materially, their nature actually transcends the material world, as well as the peace and happiness in solving the problem. But that isn’t easy is it?

Eventually, people start to focus only on the positive consequences of solving the problem, that is the happiness and pleasure, without solving the problem itself. Eventually they become stuck with the material world and become attached to it. After all, there are many things that can provide you with pleasure and happiness without having you make the effort, such as sex or alcohol. Eventually, this becomes a very hard rooted system that becomes increasingly harder to shake off. Communists have attempted to remove the drug culture, but they failed, as they only focus on solving material problems, and not the true problems. However, why is it that this drug culture keeps growing? Why is nothing stopping it? Or perhaps, what caused it in the first place. I have no definitive answer, but I do have some opinions.

Causes

In this section I shall explain my opinion on the original cause, and the perpetuative cause of drug culture. You see, the consciousness first emerged as a dead, depraved, and broken being, with heavy suffering. This early suffering is what I believe to be the first trigger towards the drug culture. The consciousness then starts to be attached towards certain parts of itself, in order to satisfy their needs, and thus the drug culture is triggered. This is only logical as the being has not gained any knowledge or experience on how to solve their problems, which has the root of lacking in love. Since no one is there to love the being, as they are alone, the being descends into deep drug culture.

While eventually the being splits into the world now, the drug culture perpetuates in the material world. Of course, there has been numerous attempts to uproot that culture and finally eliminate materialism once and for all, but the system itself is too strong for a mere mortal to uproot. Furthermore, the materialist system encourages people to keep engaging in the drug culture, thus staying ignorant and not knowing of the truth. This is done by constant pressure towards every individual, that is the pressure to be happy, the materialist system creates an apathical society that usually abandons despaired and needy citizens, thus there is a pressing need to stay “happy”. And this will go on, unless someone comes in and changes it.

Conclusion

The predecessor of materialism is the drug culture, which is apparent in our materialist capitalist system of today. It is unfortunately a natural part of the consciousness, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be changed. Regardless, if this culture is maintained for too long, I can predict that Jesus’ day of judgement and the forecoming suffering is not that far. Technically, materialism and the drug culture is exactly the same, they just refer to different aspects of the same thing. Materialism refers to the institutionalization and systematization of it, while the drug culture refers to the habits and practices inherent of materialism. By any means, that is all I have to say, have a nice day and see you later.
